This boss battle will bring Peach to tearsAs I said before, Vibe Island is a place where even the mildest of creatures are emotionally unstable. Bowser has found an item called the Vibe Scepter and this item has the ability to alter the emotional status of all things around it, especially when in the hands of people who wave it around frivolously! Thus Vibe Island is an emotional roller coaster, with people and creatures now under the powerful control of the volatile Vibe Scepter. Super Princess Peach is certainly not the most difficult game you'll ever play, but you can rest assured that it is one of the most entertaining. You can readily obtain hearts in most areas and if you can't, Peach has her Calm ability if you want to regain HP. Don't mess with the Princess or you'll get BURNED!Princess Peach is also an emotional soul, though she is in far better control her vibes than the inhabitants of the island. Seriously, sometimes people read WAY too much into video games and I think this is a case where some people are making too much out of something that really isn't there. That isn't to say Peach is weak, as she can whoops ass with the best of them, but it fits with the character and is hardly sexist. To me, that sentence makes perfect sense, but for those of you who don't get it — the music in the game takes on a very Mario-esque feel to it. As far as items are concerned, the game is somewhat sparse in terms of overall offerings, at least in terms of items on screen. Yet it has happened in Nintendo's latest offering, Super Princess Peach. Peach can run around and jump on enemies, but instead of them simply being dispatched, as in normal Mario games, Peach simply flips them upside down (ala Mario Brothers). To me, this is a good thing, as they could have simply used canned effects. As I said, there are four separate panels to deal with and each one offers up a completely different emotional experience: Joy — Joy envelops the Princess in a whirlwind of happiness that blows all of her cares away! While in this state, the Princess can float around and reach higher ground or even blow away light weight enemies! Rage — Ever want to see Princess Peach get really pissed off? Well, Rage does just that and when in this state, Peach is LITERALLY surrounded by flames. You're going to hear me reference emotions often, as they are a key factor in playing through the game. Love is in the air! Oh, wait, is that PEACH?Keep in mind, that each of these actions requires that you have available vibe energy to use. Mario, normally the hero who comes to the aid of the Princess, has been captured and it is now up to the Princess to come rescue him. You can also buy extensions to your life meter and vibe gauge, purchase music from within the game, more puzzle pieces and more! The shop is a nice place to visit and there are tons of things to buy. You can green hurricane jeep power wheels visit the local shop in between levels and its here that you'll spend your coinage. With a number of nifty features, a very Mario styled soundtrack and some of the most gorgeous backgrounds and sprites on the DS to date, Super Princess Peach is one of those games that anyone can enjoy. While you might be thinking that these additions are simply palate swapped version of the normal characters, you're mistaken. You'll more than likely fend off a few Koopas, but you'll also find "Glad Koopas" and other emotional variants of their kind as well. Even the menus in the game are animated well AND you can interact with the opening screen for some short lived giggles. Each emotional aspect has a corresponding action behind it and these deviations create new characters that fit quite well in the Mario universe. Looking at the game from a graphics perspective, you'll find a lot to love within the realm of Super Princess Peach. The sound effects also fit in this category, as they feel like Mario sound effects, but are more variations on a theme. Gloom — When Peach gets upset, she really gets upset. When using Gloom, however, the Princess can put out fires or give sprouts the ability to grow! Calm — Ah, serenity! In a state of pure relaxation, Peach regains wall mounted water fountain her hit points. Looking down at the bottom screen, however, is where the similarity to Mario ends. You can purchase new abilities for "Perry", such as the Floatbrella ability, which allows you to glide for a short period of time, as well as the Poundbrella, which grants Peach and Perry the ability to pound the ground after jumping. Let me lay it out for you so that you don't fall into this idiotic train of thought — the emotions that Peach manipulates throughout the game are a product of the Vibe Scepter. While you're certainly going to find the occasional Goomba roaming freely around the island, you'll also find "Mad Goombas" and "Sad Goombas". In Super Princess Peach, emotional instability gives each creature a unique spin. If you're low on vibe energy, you can keep your eyes peeled for crystals, which fill up the gauge, or simply grab an enemy and absorb them using the umbrella. It's certainly silly, but it adds a bit of color to the game that makes it more fun. Some have even referred to the game, in jest I would hope, as Super Princess PMS. It's great, in that you know exactly what to use and when to use it, but it hurts the game by offering up a somewhat repetitive experience. The beautiful, hand-drawn sprites are incredibly rich in color and detail and the animations only add to the overall charm. Keep in mind; you start out with three full hearts, meaning Peach can take a whopping six hits before she needs to restart the level from scratch. Getting into the play mechanics, we see that Super Princess Peach plays very much like your average Mario game with a few unique exceptions. That's gotta sting a bit!Each of the eight worlds consists of several stages with a boss at the end of the final stage. The bottom screen has a large picture of the Princess as well as four distinctly colored "Heart Panels". Taking place on the emotionally unstable Vibe Island, Super Princess Peach is a seventy two level romp that serves as a vehicle to launch Peach's solo career. The world in which she is thrust is gorgeous as well, with parallax backgrounds and features that are pleasing to the eye and present the gamer with an agreeably aesthetic world in which to play. That's not to say it isn't fun, it's just really quite easy to play. In the end, however, you're presented with a very enjoyable and very well produced product. From unique birthday present for man minute facets, such as peach lightly spinning her umbrella when standing still (not only does the umbrella spin, but you see her tiny hands spinning it), as well as peach holding down the front of her dress as she falls! These are all minor, but noticeable and that's what makes them so damn interesting. Whenever there is trouble in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario is there. As in past Mario titles, Peach can slide, enter warp pipes as well as pick dictionary home mortgage terms up items and coins (which we'll discuss later). It fits with the character and has been carefully created.
